Why we're building ZKyNet

Managing encrypted tunnels should not require a networking degree.

The gap

Every VPN app on the market manages one tunnel. If you need your work traffic going through a corporate connection and your personal browsing through a different provider, you choose one or the other. Activating a second tunnel deactivates the first.

This is not a niche complaint. ProtonVPN's user forum has a request for simultaneous multi-tunnel support with over 224 votes. Mullvad closed their per-domain split tunneling request as not planned. Firefox users have been asking for per-container tunnel routing since 2017.

The underlying operating system primitives exist. Policy-based routing, network namespaces, split DNS. These are standard capabilities. But using them requires dozens of lines of shell scripting and networking expertise that most people do not have.

Nobody has built an interface that makes these workflows accessible. That's what ZKyNet is.

What we believe

Tunnel management should be accessible

The same way Tailscale made mesh networking usable without manual WireGuard configuration, ZKyNet makes multi-tunnel routing usable without iptables knowledge.

Provider-agnostic by default

Your .conf and .ovpn files should work regardless of which provider issued them. ZKyNet is where you manage all your tunnels, not where you're locked into one.

System-wide, not app-limited

Routing rules should apply across your entire system and inside your browser. Not just to one app, not just to one tunnel.

Built in the open

Transparent by design

Built on established, well-audited protocols. No proprietary tunneling. Security through proven standards, not obscurity.

Established protocols

Built on WireGuard and OpenVPN, both well-audited, widely trusted protocols. Not proprietary tunneling.

Canadian incorporation

Federally incorporated in Canada (17204671 Canada Inc.). Subject to PIPEDA, Canada's federal privacy law. Clear legal jurisdiction.

Abuse prevention

Built-in network integrity protections. A well-operated network benefits everyone using it.
